Ok, so I have been invited to my first ever Great Gatsby Picnic!! I am sooooo excited. Not just for the fun experience that I am sure I'll have at the Picnic, but for the fun experience of researching and creating a new dress from an era I have NEVER done before! I have made my cloche and that is ready and this post will be about that....
The cloche started out being just a plain tightly woven, thin straw sun hat that I got at a thrift store. Then came the trimming, wiring, steaming, shaping, steaming, shaping, steaming and shaping some more. Finally came the covering of ruched ivory dupioni silk. I purposefully kept it ivory so that different flowers can be pinned onto it to match the color of the dress I'm wearing! I am actually shocked and impressed at how well it actually ended up being! Not bad for my first attempt at a 1920s cloche!!!
This is disgustingly cute, and I really hope I can change the dates of mt visit just so I can ask you to make me one too! It's completely lovely. I love the idea of the Gatsby era because I have always had short flapperish hair! Any era without the need for a wig is a good era! Gosh I guess I better think about a dress...happily I have perfect shoes already. Lord, but I am cringing at the drop waist though...yes lets draw attention to the widest measurment I have...lol!
ReplyDeletehahaha...Josie you make me laugh! Disgustingly cute...I'm going to have to remember that one! I love your new hair cut. It will be perfect! The drop waist isn't that bad by the way....
