To all who mourn in Israel, He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory. Isaiah 61:3

An American Revolutionary War Patriot

"Mom, would you make a Patriot outfit for me for Halloween?  I want it to look like this..." (he shows me a picture that he has found in a book.) "I want the coat to be blue with the red on the front with silver buttons and a white vest.  I also want a pouch that the straps cross over my chest and I want to use Dad's muzzle loader."

A quick search of sewing patterns at JoAnn's and I found Butterick 3072.  Not sure how historically accurate this pattern is but the 12 year old I made it for is not so much about the historical accuracy as he is how cool he looks whilst wearing it!  And may I just say, he TOTALLY LOOKS AAAAAAWESOME!!!

All the accessories we had on hand...some boots I got at a thrift store, a tea stained looking pair of pants (I read somewhere that men dyed their pants and vests with tea?  Odd...has anyone else read this?), an old leather and deer hide satchel that my Dad gave me.  Greg's Indiana Jones leather hat that got re-shaped, and Greg's muzzle loader...Perfect!!!

May I present, Colton White, Patriot of the American Revolution.

That's my adorable handsome young man...ready for Halloween or any other dress up event that calls for a Patriot!

Be blessed my friends!

Time Out For A Halloween Costume!

Ohmygosh!  I cannot believe how utterly busy I have been as of late!  I think I may have served myself a little too many things upon my plate.  So, I will start off again by sharing the costume I made for my Colton.  He informed me a few months ago that he wished to be Connor from Assassin's Creed III.  Ok.  Right-o.  Guess what?  There are no costume patterns for Assassin's Creed costumes!  Yeah!  So, I used a Simplicity pattern and mutated it until it looked like Connor's coat.  Then I found the most awesome DIY Assassin's Creed hood tutorial of the web!!  Hooray!!!

So, with time to spare and a great length of deer hide from a wonderful friend Chante, Colton was ready to be Connor!!  He loved his costume and I loved the fact that Mom was the hero of the hour!!!  Laaaaaaaaa!!!!

I love this picture!  We couldn't find a tomahawk in time for Halloween, so Colton found a piece of rusty hardware laying around the farm to use instead!!
