To all who mourn in Israel, He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory. Isaiah 61:3

We Wear History Celebrates Laura Ingalls Wilder's Birthday!

*Photo Heavy Post*

(Because the models look Faaaaabulous!!!)

Photos by C.W. Photography

So, last Saturday We Wear History put on a fashion show at the Boise Public Library as part of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Birthday Celebration.  Laura was born in 1867 and died in 1957, so I thought it would be cool to highlight the fashion that was worn during the "7" years during her lifetime.  Since I hadn't made a little girls dress for 1867, we started in 1877 and went through to 1957.  It was super fun, the models did a more than incredible job, they looked so beautiful, and the audience loved it!  It is always fun to watch young ladies and gentlemen interact with the ladies after the programs and to watch the ladies as the young ladies call them "princesses"!  Oh how I love these fashion shows!!

Laura and the big sleeves of the 1890s.  She is wearing a cameo that belonged to her Grandmother!

This was Jackie's first fashion show! She did a great job!

Adalea thought wearing this era's dress was super fun!

Carolita thought the 1920s parasol was super fun and was delighted that she could open it in the building!

Me.  Wearing 1930s.  Oh, such a different experience!

Marilyn totally rocked the 1940s look!  Her hair and that beret!

Sarah loved wearing the 1950s, she has several dresses from this era in her closet!

Natural Form Era Maternity Gown

Hello all!  I hope you are having a lovely weekend!  My weekend has been exhausting.  But exhausting in a good way.  Yesterday I finished up my NFE maternity gown that I wore today to the Mary Hallock Foote centennial celebration at the Boise Public Library and today I got to wear it!  It was so funny and fun!  I do plan on altering it into a regular tea gown and then I wish to wear it to tea!

I totally forgot to take a picture of the wee little pillow I made for my "baby".

I was so proud of myself for remembering AND taking the time to make the pocket for this dress! And yes, I did use it!

Stitching the antique christening gown I purchased at Antique World Mall.

Close up of the really squirrely satin fabric for the front...UGH!!  It was most vexing to work with!

This was the best "back" image of the dress.  The wind really cooperated for this shot as it caused the dress to billow out nicely!

The inspiration for my gown came from the below two sources.  I loved how the first dress from Kent State University was ruched around the collar and then fell straight down.  I also liked the trim on either side of the opening.

I got the idea for the horizontal ruching below the collar from this image.  I was going to attempt the ruching all the way down the front after I reverted it back to a tea gown, but after the way the fabric acted, I decided that it really didn't need to be done!!!

Some images from the day!

7 of us ladies had a wonderful time modeling dresses for the MHF fashion show!

The stairs at "The Cabin" was a perfect place for showcasing the dresses!

Mama and me!

Sweet Addy was our Southern Belle today.  This dress looked so great on her!

Big sister exclaiming at the news!  This was a fun photo!

Beautiful mother and daughter, Marilyn and Aubrielle.

Tammy, me and Dana.  We have known each other since youth group in Jr. High!

Victorian ladies on a Victorian Bridge!

Silly video.  This was the 5th or 6th attempt at making a video and I wasn't going to start another one.  Please note that when I was grousing about the dress construction, I was not intending to grouse about the Truly Victorian pattern itself, but my alterations to it.  I did correct myself in the video, but I just wanted to reiterate it here!

Well, that is all for today.  I am off to bed and a very well deserved sleep!

Blessings to you all my friends!!

We Wear History Events in September 2014

These past couple of weekends have been very busy for We Wear History, my costuming group here in town.  On Saturday, September 20th we put on a Through the Ages Fashion
Show for the antique store Something Special.  It was so much fun!  The day was fabulous...not too cold and not too hot!  The owner of the store, Gwen, had been wanting to do a fashion show for a tea party for quite a while and it finally came to be!  We demonstrated 5 different categories...1) underwear 2) 1860s hoops 3) natural form and second bustle 4) 1890s and early Edwardian and 5) Teens era.  Tammy was a wonderful emcee and described our dresses wonderfully!  What I love most about fashion shows is the look on the lady's and gentlemen's faces when they see the dresses and especially what was worn under them!

Here are a few of the pictures that were taken.  For more visit our Facebook page...

This past Saturday, we helped The Bishops' House celebrate thier 125th Birthday!  Aaaaaand since it was a Birthday party, we decided that we should wear tiaras!!  This was a very special event for me because it was the first time my Mother in Law, who does not in Idaho, attended with me!!  She wore my yellow Ruth DeWitt Bukater tea dress and I think she looked fabulous!!

More pictures can be seen here...

It has been a fun past couple of weeks and we have many more events in the planning!  I can't wait!!

Be blessed my friends!
