To all who mourn in Israel, He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory. Isaiah 61:3

Finally! The 1930s Fall Suit is Worn!

Good Monday to you all!  I hope you had a marvelous weekend!!

This past Saturday, We Wear History did a fashion show for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Birthday Celebration at the Boise Public Library.  (Photos of that fashion show will be posted in my next blog entry...the ladies looked fabulous!!!)  Because we wore dresses that were representations of the fashion that was worn during Laura's lifetime, a dress from the "7th" year in the decade was worn (Laura was born in 1867 and died in 1957).  I chose to wear my 1930s Fall Suit that I made clear back in November of 2015!  The only time I have worn it outside my house was to attend a friend's wedding, but didn't wear the hat, gloves or wear 1930s make-up, so this was its first "official" wearing and I am not 100% sure that it makes me abundantly happy...like my Victorian-1920s dresses make me happy.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I'm used to being really trussed up when I wear my Victorian-1920s outfits with a corset and all, but the wearing of this 1930s fashion just didn't look right to me.  It could have something to do with the fact that the silhouette of this era was a long rectangle as well, something I am just not used to.  Or maybe it was the weird fit of the jacket, I just don't know.  I think I am going to have to make a couple more 30s era outfits just to make sure!  Oh, and I do need make some appropriate underthings, like whatever they used for the corset...corselette?  girdle?  And of course that era's brassiere.  Oh darn.  I have to make underwear?  I'm so upset!  aaaaahahahahaha!!!

Anyway, my sweet Colton was our photographer and he, as always, did a marvelous job!  It's also fun I think, that the pictures look like they were taken in the fall!  Which works perfectly with the outfit!!

A bit of cheek to end with!

Okey dokey, that's all for this week!  Next entry will be the fashion show and the beautiful models that I had the pleasure of working with!!

Be Blessed my friends!!

  2. I agree - the color is marvelous! And the suit is lovely, and I think it looks very nice on you. I know what you mean by feeling not-quite-right in a particular decade. That's how I feel about 1860s, but so far I've only made the one dress. Perhaps you are right that further experimenting with the styles of the time are needed. I'd love to see more 1930s if you do end up making more ensembles! It seems to be an under-represented decade in historical sewing circles.

    1. I am so happy that you understand how I feel in a decade that I am sooooo not used to! I will give it a few more chances if only for the fact that I need dresses from different eras in the fashion shows that are put on! I am going to try the jacket again and make it a bit more snug and that may just help! I used to not like the 1860s but after making 3 dresses, I find that I really like it now!

  3. Cute pictures on the bridge, especially! It is certainly a different feel from frothy frocks, but it is nonetheless elegant in its simplicity. :)

    Best,

  4. Well I like the look on you. It seems very natural and like an everyday Vintage outfit. I have never personally been able to warm up to belting a jacket something about the bulk and belt feel uber weird to me, however it LOOKS correct and good! The bridge is awesome (note to self: take pictures on the covered bridge near my house already dolt!) These are the kind of clothes I want to wear everyday- only my yoga pants are just sooooo comfy. LOL!!

    1. Thank you my friend and I totally agree with the belted jacket. It is just weird. And the only thing that it has going for it is the fact that so many fashion plates show this odd phenomenon! Bahahahahaha!!! Yes! Please take pics on a covered bridge so I can live vicariously!!
      Blessings!
