For Costume College, I had planned on wearing my Green Edwardain "S" Bend Corset with my Edwardian Combinations. But this year for Coco, the theme for Sunday Breakfast is "Breakfast Belles and Beaux"...and the dress code is "Tea gowns, wrappers and kimonos". Sooooo....I had some thinking I had to do and some research. I wanted something that would be rather simple to put together...in other words I didn't want to make an elaborate Victorian Era Tea Gown. One day I wish to make one of those, but I just didn't have time for this year.
Enter the fun pajamas and kimonos of the 1920s. I have put together a Pinterest board of Pajamas, Robes and Kimonos. I have wanted to make a 1920s Kimono for quite some time and this was the perfect "excuse" to get one made! I had all the fabric for this outfit in my stash so extra score!!!
This is the main inspiration for the pajamas part of my outfit. Source: Anything Goes: Celebrating the 20s
I LOVE this look! It is so sweet and simple looking, but oh so comfy!!!
I had in my stash some dark gold dupioni silk from two curtain panels that I found several years ago. The pink is a poly satin.
These are the patterns I used:
I lowered the neck hemline and raised the underarm seam of the bodice part of this 1920s inspired pattern. |
View E was used for the pants...instead of putting elastic at the leg hems, I added a cuff. |
I modified this wonderful pattern for my Kimono. |
Completed 1920s Pajama outfit! I can't wait to wear it Sunday morning for Belles and Beaux Breakfast!
Close up of the embroidered silk I used. I have had this in my stash for about 3 years. I had it in mind for a Kimono when I purchased it and finally have one! |
Fun slippers from Victoria's Secret. Found these at one of my local Antique Stores! |
One of my accessories for this outfit is my Boudoir Doll. I had wanted one for a loooong time as I love dollies and antiques, but never could find one in town. I really like supporting my antique stores and LOVE it when I can find something like this doll in town. So when I saw her at Antique World Mall, I knew she would be coming to my house to live. I have decided to name her Georgiana!
Here is a wonderful article about Boudoir Dolls: Boudoir Dolls: Messengers from the Past
And nooooo...I am not a naughty girl. Just so we are clear on that point!
I think she compliments my PJs and Kimono quite nicely! |
She has what appears to be real human hair made up in finger waves. Sadly the back of her head is bald. I will attempt to make her a hat before Coco.... |
Her face is very lovely and sweet. She sports a Victorian looking dress in silk with lovely lace and flower trim. |
The shoes crack me up! They are painted gold, one being darker than the other! |
Well, I am one more outfit ready for Costume College! I can't wait to be out of a corset for breakfast Sunday morning! Georgiana and I will see you there!!
Blessings!

That is so beautiful! I hope I get to see it since I don't go down for breakfast. I know a lot of the ladies will wander the halls and classrooms in their Sunday Undies.
ReplyDeleteWell, Val, it will be a miracle if I make it down to breakfast that early!!! Hahahahaha!!! I am soooooo NOT a morning person! But I will be wearing it to my Wire Hat 101 class!

Lovely costume, and the colours go together so beautifully. But you've got me wondering now - just HOW MANY outfits does a person need when attending Costume College? :-)
ReplyDeleteHa! Well, I haven't gone to a costume convention in a few years, so, I am wanting to live the experience up! Years ago when I went to the SASS conventions, I had at least 2 costumes a day...This year, I don't have that many, but I have a few!
DeleteThank you for your compliments!
Blessings!
g
Ah, so you as you haven't gone to a convention for a few years you have a backlog of costume wearing to catch up on!
Deletehahahaha! Yes! Another reason that I am making a stupid amount of costumes, is there really isn't any place to wear Regency and Romantic eras where I live...so, what a fabulous excuse to make and wear those! Yeah for excuses!! hahahahaha!!!
DeleteSuper cute and inspiring. I'm sure you'll be comfortable and look smashing.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Quinn
Thank you so much Quinn! I hope I am comfy....a few hours out of a corset will be totally worth it!
