Wedding Gown Bodice Update: Ruching Done!!

Ok, so it's not ruching.  But I cannot for the life of me remember the correct word and googling "Ruched synonym" is not helping me out at all.  So, for the sake of my sanity and this post, we shall refer to it by its incorrect name.  Perhaps one of my lovely friends will help me out and offer up the correct lingo!!!

It's DONE!!!  And I couldn't be happier!  My brain is swollen and bruised as I had to use the dreaded four letter word....MATH (mental abuse to humans....) and draft my own patter for the yoke.  Why?  Because I insist on being difficult.  That's why.  Anyhoo, after only two mock ups (thank heaven for small miracles!!!) I was able to get the correct placement and measurements to cut into my sparse silk chiffon and have it work! I think it worked out splendidly!  There was very little wailing and gnashing of teeth, so there is that.

I'm at a stand still with this dress until next week, when I am hoping and praying that the other silk comes in.  Remember Harriet?  Yaaaaa..she's still mocking me.  Conceited old cow.  Can you tell I'm tired?  I actually am very tired.  I think using math is not good for my health.

Ruffly collar and orange blossom corsage is just pinned on until the rest of the silk comes in...or I have to hem the strips I have to make the ruffle.

I about cried when I got all the gathering strings all gathered up and it actually looked good!

I pinned my Victorian mother-of-pearl hand brooch at the base of the collar.  I didn't like it there, so moved it up to about the middle.  You can see that in the next photos...

The front is going to be so wonderfully ruffly and fluffy!

I also got the puff at the back of the neck completed.  If I have some left over of the new stuff with the selvage, I will make a new one.  For now though, this one will have to do.

Oh ya, and I completed the waist bow thingy.  Huzzah!

So, now I sit and wait and pray and work on Mama's bodice and hat!  I am so happy that I am this far complete with the dress!  OH!!  I do have to bone the inside seams, but that is easy-peasy!!  And I have to do something with the sleeve hem....still pondering that.

Have a wonderful rest of you week everyone!

Blessings!

  6. I agree with Esther that it is shirring, and can I volunteer to be your model for this??? As in, can I wear it all day every day for at least a week?!?!? Preferably in a proper historic home, but with modern photographic equipment. :) :) It is one of the prettiest reproductions I've seen. Nothing "simple" about it, except for how it is not too "cluttered", if you will, and each lovely element shines. But then again, I LOVE the 1890's, and am currently studying out **1893** in particular, and there is nothing better than historic, Victorian bridal gowns. :) :) Oh, and no, you never can share too many posts on this with us!!!!!!!
